See more » Materials Berroco Glace [100% rayon ribbon, 75 yd/69 m per 50 g skein] color: #2344 (pink), 2 skeins (you will have very little left over) US 6 / 4mm straight needles (3 required) Sewing needle Yarn needle Lining fabric, 9 / 22.cm wide x 20 / 51cm long (raw silk used in sample) Pink 6/0 glass E-beads, approximately 20 Coordinating sewing thread (you may wish to use rayon thread) Magnetic snap 2 clear plastic purse handles, approx. 6 / 15.5cm wide Gauge 22.5 sts and 28 rows = 4 / 10cm in stockinette Bag Front Cast on 45 sts. Work for 1 / 2.5cm in stockinette, ending with a WS row. Next row (RS): Purl across. This forms the turning row for the hem. Continue in stockinette until piece measures 9 / 22.5 cm. Do not bind off. Cut yarn and set aside on spare needle. Bag Back Work as for front. When piece measures 9 inches/22.5 cm from beginning, do not cut yarn. Holding front and back together with RS facing, join using 3-needle bind off. Flower CO 5 sts. Working in stockinette and beginning with a WS (purl) row, increase 1 st at beginning and end of each RS (knit) row until there are 9 sts. End with a RS row. Cut yarn but do not remove petal from needle. Make 4 more petals in the same fashion. Do not cut yarn on last petal. Next row (WS): Purl across all 5 petals (45 sts). Next row: *K2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 (23 sts). Next row: *P2tog; rep from * to last st, p1 (12 sts). Next row: *K2tog; rep from * to end (6 sts). Cut yarn, draw through remaining sts and pull to gather. Fasten off and sew seam. Sew beads randomly to center of flower with sewing thread and needle. Finishing Weave in ends. Sew side seams of bag. Attach flower near upper right corner of bag front. Attach magnetic snap to center front and back of bag, working through the knitted hem only. Cut two pieces of lining fabric, 9 / 22.5 cm wide and 10 / 25.5 cm long. Sew, right sides together, using a 5/8 / 1.5cm seam allowance. Press down top edge of lining 1.25 / 3cm, folding fabric to WS. Insert lining into bag, wrong sides together. Fold knitted hem over top edge of lining and stitch in place with sewing thread. Attach handles to upper edge of bag. See less »
