See more » After having listened to the soundtrack LP any number of times it was a little disconcerting to actually see the original movie! The difference between the two movies, and it's the same difference going on between the soundtracks too, is that in the first movie the songs kep getting better and better, until it exploded into the sublime one-two knockout punch of BREAKING FREE and WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER--and then this one, where the best songs are all in the front, and after halftime, it just delivers one disappointment after another. I don't even know if I like Troy's new voice, which I understand is the real voice of everyone's favorite new star Zac Efron. On some of the tracks on HSM2 it just sounds so overproduced it could by anybody's. (The producers use this to strange effect in "Bet On It," in which Troy runs around the resort outskirts, sings parts of "Bet On It," and seems to listen to other of his own voices echoing himself in the background, coming out of the sky to give him hope. However when all is said and done the fans will like this as much as they did the first LP, even though the first freshness is long gone, the way we fell in love with Gabriella and Troy without even realizing it. Here Gabriella takes a way back seat to Troy--I wonder if there are some deleted scenes of her oddly tentative hookup with Ryan--who in some scenes of HSM2 comes across as shockingly heterosexual and interested in women beyond Liza Minnelli and Shirley MacLaine! In any case there are some great songs here, and "You are the Music in Me" is just as catchy and will stick in your head just as long as "Breaking Free," and that means 4EVA. Other standouts include the Chad-Ryan duet about playing baseball is not like dancing, oh wait maybe it IS a little; and "What Time Is It," a high energy track that is the LP's first single. I didn't care so much for "Work This Out," and basically that's the problem of the movie, that working in the country club kitchen (or pool) doesn't really seem that degrading or awful or tragic as the kids seem to feel. I don't say they're spoiled, just that, don't you have anything else to whine about? Hope that the DVD version of HSM2 includes Ryan and Sharpay singing that Hawaiian song they recorded for the soundtrack! I think your friend might enjoy being able to do something with this gift because its a gift that is more interactive.

High School Musical is so safely Disney, while Bratz has it's own piece on the E's Soup about how sluttly they are.

Bratz are so creepy. HSM sucks, but Bratz are not a good influence for an eight-year-old.
