Cristina Salusti artist and designer living in Woodstock, Vermont has embarked on a new venture. A new favorite activity in Vermont became frequenting church fairs, yard sales and salvage yards. It dawned on her one day, surveying hundreds of abandoned household items, that each piece had a personal story. Cristina decided she needed to take some of these lonely ceramic pieces home with her and re-invent them. With little to lose, she brought her first box of selections back to the studio. After much experimentation, she began plating with gold and platinum. The results were dramatic. They became a precious and "venerable" collection. Taking them further, Cristina began masking out random shapes and quirky pictograms. Finally, they were sandblasted, thereby revealing the original "bones" or soul of the object. Cristina approaches each piece individually, sometimes living with them for months before beginning. It is important for her to sense the spirit of the objuect before embarking on it's transformation. She hopes they will become cherished family heirlooms. One of a kind.
