I first got into internet marketing while doing admin (at Guru.com) for a construction company - they wanted their website updated, and the graphic designer asked me what to use for meta keywords, site title, etc. I did some research to find out what that all meant, and was immediately immersed into the world of SEO. So I was a bit niave at first, and though I’d have a hand at opening up a T-shirt shop at CafePress. I noticed that TShirtHell ranked at the top of the engines for the keywords I wanted, so went to go learn more about SEO to figure out how to beat them. Well, come to find out TShirtHell had been around a long while and there was no way I’d outrank them with my fledgling skills. In the meantime, I got on a ton of marketers lists and started getting pitches about Adsense site building, creating throwaway sites with a few mouse clicks and basic concepts of salespages, backends, and more and more SEO info. Keith Baxter opened “Top Keyword Lists” which was a member site with lists of high paying, high traffic keywords for Adsense site building. I joined, and just about thereafter bought darn near everything he put out. Keith is a master of SEO, scripts, huge networks of sites and monetization, and much of what I know now can be traced back to him or something I purchased at his recommendation (Thank you Keith!). I joined a private forum Baxter had started and was hanging out with - or at least reading the posts of - guys who were mostly doing Adsense site building, cloaking, scraping, big mass-automated stuff. And I got into it too. But the biggest problem I had was that I didn’t have the technical know-how to produce networks of sites (or blog farms) that would link back to my money sites and thus bring me the high search engine ranking I needed for my keywords to produce the extraordinary amounts of money my associates at the forum were raking in. During this time, I was making enough with my Adsense to quit doing admin work for other folks. It was good work because it was through Guru so I was working at home, which I loved, but I was really intrigued by the whole “internet marketing” thing and could see a lot of possibilites. Anyway, back to the problem… I wasn’t able to build the network of sites to help my money sites rank high in the search engines. I set about to find a solution that would work for me - someone without a full time programmer to custom build scripts for me, someone without the technical knowledge to do it myself, and someone without so much money to burn that I could just pay for a ton of PR7’s and 8’s to link to my sites via a service like Text Link Ads. (…. to be continued)
