I’ve been practicing my offline sales approaches, mainly ’cause I’m not very good, lol. I believe I’ve gotten better, at least I thought I was on the right track. I approached a vendor at one of these home show things we are so fond of around here. I wanted to buy their fudge and never thought of bringing up Site Build It. The conversation flowed in that direction however. I was looking for a deal on fudge and the lady told me how the owner had to take a break in the back, he was just plain worn out. I brought up how a website would be real handy for him, he wouldn’t have to drag himself around to all these shows, he went as far as Calgary!. She was real interested. So I told her a bit more, being careful not to over sell it. I mentioned how it would be easy to incorporate his old customers with new ones. I even mentioned how another vendor we used was delivering goods using the postal service and was thrilled with the outcome. I thought I had her genuinely interested and then she paused. (I thought what could I have possibly said wrong?) She said, “If it’s on the internet and as good as you say, he would get a lot of new orders.” “Yes,” I knew I had lost her at this point but couldn’t understand why. She told me… “That would be TOO GOOD for business, he would never keep up with orders!” blink, blink. Never at a loss for words for too long I answered, “I could make you a lousy website for half the price and guarantee you never got any new customers…”
