Form and function meld harmoniously with this contemporary classic. Available with either a hand-covered antique ocean globe ball or in an exciting dual-map, raised relief, blue ocean version. This globe has something for everybody. The simple lines & high quality hardwood stand fits into many decors & will last a lifetime of regular use. The blue ocean Austin comes with a dual map feature that reveals a political map when the light is turned on, subdued to reveal a great physical map when the light is turned off. The blue ocean version also features raised relief, which is a rare feature for an illuminated globe. The antique-ocean version ships with a distinguished hand-positioned paper gore globe ball. Both models come with a high quality, calibrated, full die-cast metal meridian. Please note that illuminated globes have an electrical cord that comes from the south pole area of the globe ball, but is hidden in these pictures by the photographer. The cord would prevent end over end turning of the ball/ring assembly, so the stand is designed to allow the meridian to rotate within notches in the stand, instead of turning end over end as many non-illuminated globes. This does not prohibit or limit one's exploration of the Southern Hemisphere, but it is something to be aware of.
