Overall score includes primarily hiding performance, surface smoothness, and resistance to staining, scrubbing, gloss change, sticking, mildew, and fading. Most results were developed from tests of white, pastel, and medium-tint bases. Hiding reflects how well two coats cover a contrasting color, whether dark over light or light over dark. Surface smoothness indicates an absence of roller marks when the paint is dry. Resistance to staining shows how well paints resist a greasy stain. Scrubbing shows how paint holds up to an abrasive cleaner. Gloss change notes the change in appearance when cleaned with a hard-surface cleaner. Sticking indicates the tendency for paints to not remain soft or tacky even when dry. Mildew is the ability to inhibit mildew growth. Fading reflects color change when exposed to UV light. Better one-coat hiding (footnoted in the Ratings) indicates that a paint has an overall good score for one-coat hiding. Price is approximate retail per gallon.
