This Swedish band deserves more recognition outside its homeland. Because its music is original and deserves praise for innovation? Hardly...Kent aren't that kind of band. They're the type of band you mellow out to on a lazy afternoon in the sun. This cd is lined with rock anthems that seem to meander with direction only to take off and soar. There's definitely a Scandinavian pop flavour in Kent and that is no bad thing. They take a no-nonsense approach to rock in the good old fashioned sense. Influences point to grand, psychedelic-flavoured rock (opener "Lifesavers" is a perfect example) and while Radiohead comparisons are often misused, they seem appropriate here. Listen to "If You Were Here" and tell me that isn't Thom Yorke being channelled. You can even hear echoes of Billy Corgan on some tracks. Kent don't offer anything new, this album just invigorates with it's drawling vocals and sweeping rock sense. Comment | Was this review helpful to you? (Report this)
