Located in the Hollywood & Highland Center, the Kodak Theatre is a 3,400 seat theatre that opened in November 2001 and soon after became known as the first permanent home of the Academy Awards. Costing $94 million to build, this theatre in Hollywood, CA was designed by the renowned Rockwell Group and is as infamous and spectacular as the artists and celebrity guests that cross it. Kodak's prominent and long-standing connection to the film industry in Hollywood made its naming an obvious partnership which cost Kodak $75 million. The stage itself is one of the largest in the nation measuring 120 feet wide and 75 feet deep. There are 3 balcony levels that keep audiences close to the stage and 20 opera boxes for those desiring the VIP treatment. All VIP boxes include digital screens that allow guests to order drinks and souvenirs with just the touch of a button. The Theatre is a design tribute to the grand opera houses of Europe, but also has a new high-tech flare. The Kodak Theatre is also a first class entertainment venue which has hosted a range of artists and events including Celine Dion, Prince, Stevie Wonder, the American Ballet Theatre and various touring Broadway productions to name just a few. Notable television and awards events at the theatre have also included The American Idol finals, the Latin Grammy Awards, the BET awards, and AFI Lifetime Achievement Awards to Tom Hanks, George Lucas and Meryl Streep. Theatre tours are offered seven days a week, with rare production and performance schedule exceptions, from 10:30am to 2:30pm, every 30 minutes so visitors and tourists to Hollywood can catch a glimpse of this rare gem of a theatre.
