I'm automatically activated and ready to use on the day after I'm purchased (except if I'm mailed). But, you should still make sure you're the only one for me! First, make sure you write my number on the greeting card or card carrier I came with and save it in a safe place. Then, sign your name on my back. Signing your name helps ensure that nobody else can use me - you can even register me online right here at commercegiftcard.com so in case I'm lost, everyone will know I only belong to you and you can get me back! Also, registering will help you when using me to purchase something online. One more thing...I don't have a PIN...So just like when using your debit card or credit card, hand me over to the cashier and ask to sign for your purchase; or press "credit" on the terminal and sign your receipt. Either way, the funds still come only from my balance. Remember, always check my balance before you shop. Just call 1-866-767 9119 (Hint: This number is printed on my back) or logon here at commercegiftcard.com. You'll need the card number printed on my chest and the 3 digit code located on my back next to the signature panel. Even I have my limits! I love to spend but, I am limited to only the amount of money you have on me. So, if you try and spend more than what I've got, your purchase will be declined. But, don't let that stop you! If you need to purchase something that costs more than I have, you can combine my balance with cash, check or another card (debit card or credit card). Just tell the check out person before she rings you up that you want to split the purchase between me and another form of payment. Then, tell her the exact amount to use from me...so if I only have $26.35 left, that's the amount you tell her authorize. Because I am limited to a specific amount of money, some purchases might be a little tricky...here's a few helpful hints: * Restaurants and Service-Oriented Places - Are you a big tipper? Well, these places usually expect that you are! That's why it's customary for service-oriented merchants to automatically add 20% to the amount of your bill when authorizing your purchase. So, remember to make sure that I have enough to cover the total bill (including the tip) or your purchase will be declined. * Gas Stations - Pay-at-the-Pump - It would be nice to think that nobody would ever drive off after filling up their gas tank without paying. Although shocking to think, it probably does happen from time to time. If you pay at the pump, the terminal may check to see if I have enough money to cover up to $75 worth of gas. You can avoid this simply by prepaying for your gas (for an exact amount) with an attendant inside the station. * Hotels, Car Rentals and Travel Service-Oriented Places - Ever dip into that cabinet in your hotel room...you know, the one with the lock! Well, these companies expect your final bill to include what they refer to as "incidentals" - those extra charges for things like raiding the snack bar or taking home the towels as a souvenir. That's why it's customary for travel-oriented merchants to automatically add 25% to the amount of your bill when authorizing your purchase. So, remember to make sure that I have enough to cover the total bill (including the "incidentals") or your purchase will be declined. You can avoid this simply by reserving your services with another form of payment and closing out your bill for an exact amount charged on me! Spending is what I do best, so get right to it! Even though I am usually used up right away, there is a $2.50 monthly service charge that begins on the first day of the month immediately following the 365th day after the date I was purchased. So remember to use me until my entire balance is gone. And...they say I can't last forever so we printed a "Good Thru" date on me to remind you. The date may be up to 2 years from the time you received me, depending when I was purchased. I'm made for spending not for cashing! Since I don't have a PIN like a debit card...I can't get cash at an ATM or redeem myself for cash at bank branches.
