La Chanh Nguyen brought the feeling indoors with her except instead of grass she used moss. Then she planted the moss in a bath mat made of decay free foam. She calls her living bath mat Moss Carpet and so far, it is my favorite green find of the year. The Moss Carpet was a project designed by La Chanh during her studies. According to the description the, " bathroom carpet is made of imputrescible foam called plastazote. Each cell welcomes a piece of moss (ball moss, Island moss, forest moss). The humidity of the bathroom and the drops flowing from the body, water the mosses. This vegetable carpet procures a great feeling to your feet." So, when you step out of the shower onto the Moss Carpet to dry your feet you are actually stepping on moss. If you are wondering if it leaves your feet dirty or if your bathroom becomes messy after stepping on it, you are not the only one. What about the mess? Does the mat dry your feet well? Does it stain your feet with green (like grass stains) or does the moss come off the mat as it sticks to your feet? Do you have to constantly maintain the mat? Water it? Clip it? Wash it? These are the kind of questions you want to know the answers to before you buy it, dry your feet with it and then step out of the bathroom on to your new clean carpet or floor. Right? It turns out, according La Chanh's answers on Yanko Design's comment section, the Moss carpet requires very little maintenance. It can survive off of the water it absorbs from your wet feet. The moss also does not need any dirt and does not stick to your feet when walked on. The moss is of a resistant nature, not the kind that die when touched and the kind to grow back with a little water even after it dries. If moss needs to be replaced it can be replaced easily. Unfortunately, La Chanh is not selling the Moss Carpet yet. It is still a prototype. If you would like to see more of La Chanh Nguyen's work take a look at her project site. Notice the Kitchen Garden and her Fragrant Swing? I would love to test the two of these and the Moss Carpet in my home. I love her unique way of brining the outdoors inside and making it convenient at the same time.
