While you can technically get Yakima and Thule and other aftermarket racks on the MINI, they just look out of place. Trust me, I have one and just loathe looking at it. The MINI factory rack base fits perfect and is a exponentially better looking part, especially when installed. Once you have this base rack you add any factory MINI accessory like bike racks, etc. The Gen 1 MINI rack (shown above) requires drilling into the roof to expose the pre installed attachment points to then attach the removable base rack. MINI learned their lesson after hundreds (if not quadbillions) of complaints about the insane installation process. and changed it for the Gen 2 rack. The Gen 1 rack is a very durable setup and they have great instructions and a nice install kit (that we include in the price). The Gen 2 MINI (starting with the 2007 Hatchback) uses the rain gutters to attach the base rack like the aftermarket racks but the MINI feet are better integrated and carry similar styling cues as the car itself for a unified appearance. Both racks are easily removable (the Gen 1 rack comes with color matched covers for the mounting hardware that is flush mounted to the roof). FYI, the accessories are the same from Gen 1 to Gen 2, but as described the base rack is completely different. Fits these MINI models:
