Muji, as hopefully you already know, is the queen bee of super simple but cool Japanese product design. It’s an Ikea for Japan. I first became aware of their work from a friend of mine who was in Paris and stopped in to the Muji store there. He picked me up a white T-shirt that had been folded and shrink-wrapped into a perfect cube. The design was so simple and clean. And the shirt in its packaging was really a beautiful object in itself. So much so, that I have not yet opened the packaging and released the shirt because that would ruin its perfection. The same aesthetic sensibility goes for their CD player, which I’m in love with. It has no door or ugly buttons that I can see. It only has this black box that you mount on the wall with a place to click in your CD. This is not a piece for the stereophiles, but if you want ultra simplicity at not too high of a price, then take a look at this.
