@fashionfaction: They are expensive. A large retailer that is going to make a gazillion of something can benefit from increasing returns to scale (the more of something you make, the cheaper each unit is to produce). Small designer/manufacturers don't make many units, so they cost a lot more. Another factor is higher quality materials and craftsmanship. And then there is paying for original design by a designer. It is like going to an art gallery and buying original art vs. going to the mall and buying a print.
Not that this isn't nice, but why the hell is it so expensive? The pricing of basic lighting astounds me.
hope i'm not a spoiler but happened to see these reverse effect lamps on sale at potterybarn clearence online. I understand the design and colors are different but can you go wrong with the price being $14?
