Doctors Design Nightform Infant Positioning Mattress - Cream is a medically significant innovation in infant sleep safety. It is designed to address the dual infant risks of SIDS and of sleep-related skull flattening (deformational plagiocephaly). NightForm is a firm, foam, bassinet-sized mattress with two integrated positioners that can be rotated to create up to ten different back sleep positions each night. It is placed on top of an existing crib mattress or in place of an ordinary bassinet mattress and is designed for newborns 0-4 months old. Newborns should be placed on NightForm from the moment theyre brought home. When used properly, NightForm is excellent at preventing sleep-related skull flattening. By about 4 months most babies are becoming strong and mobile enough to resist nightly positioning. But babies that reach four months without any skull flattening are generally out of the risk period for the deformity so they can begin to sleep on an ordinary bassinet or crib mattress. NightForm works under the premise that skull flattening (deformational plagiocephaly) is caused by infants sleeping heads being placed in one back-sleep position all the time. NightForm has different mattress inserts, which rotate the position of your babys torso, and therefore your babys head, so that each night your child is lying in a Back to Sleep position, but at a slightly different angle. Why do I need this product? Approximately 1 in 8 infants are affected by defortmational plagiocephaly as a consequence of sleeping in the pediatrician-preferred back-slept position. In twins the rate is as high as 56 percent. Skull flattening is easy to prevent but can be difficult and expensive to resolve and, if left untreated, it can result in a lifelong skull deformity. Prevention is the best remedy. Is it safe to use? NightForm offers a convenient, clinically tested and safe way to accomplish nightly re-positioning. It is the only FDA-approved infant sleep positioner product on the market today. Plus, NightForm conforms to the American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleeping guidelines. What if my newborn already has a flat head? Is it too late to use this product? The NightForm infant positioning mattress is designed primarily to prevent skull flattening. But when flattening is diagnosed early many pediatricians will recommend a re-positioning strategy prior to prescribing more aggressive therapies like the orthotic helmet. For parents who opt for a re-positioning strategy after consultation with their pediatrician, NightForm is a very safe and effective tool. It is important for parents to know however that NightForms usefulness as a repositioning tool diminishes quickly after the baby reaches 4 months of age, since your baby is quickly getting too strong and too large for NightForm. It is also important to know that many infant skull deformity cases are caused by a tightened neck muscle condition called torticollis and these flattening cases rarely resolve with re-positioning therapy alone. So have your pediatrician or pediatric specialist examine your baby and provide a full diagnosis rather than trying to diagnose and treat flattening on your own. Is NightForm only used at night? The NightForm positioning mattress should be used any time your child is laid down to sleep. It can be used during naptime during the day, or at night. The mattress is designed to move from a standard-sized bassinet to a playpen or a crib. What is the mattress made of? It is made of a firm foam, in accordance with the American Academy of Pediatrics recommendation that babies sleep on a firm surface. The removable, washable cover is made of 65/35 poly/cotton bedding blend. How is NightForm different from other sleep wedges on the market? NightForm sets a new standard in infant sleep positioners, and differs in a variety of ways from other available positioners. * NightForm is designed to prevent skull flattening while baby sleeps safely on its back. Most positioners on the market were designed solely to keep baby sleeping on its back and many positioners
