Wayne D. Weissman, M.D., is one of two urologists certified by The American Board of Urology who performs no-scalpel, no-needle vasectomies at the Vasectomy Center at Swedish Issaquah and Swedish Greenlake Clinics. The no-needle technique is the most advanced and most comfortable no-scalpel method available on the market today. Dr. Weissman was selected by the physicians of King County as one of regions Top Doctors in Seattle published in Seattle Magazine for 2006. Dr. Weissman and his partner, James E. Gottesman, M.D., were among the first of physicians in Washington who offer no-scalpel, no-needle vasectomies. Combined, they have more than 50 years of experience in the practice of medicine and have performed more than 12,000 vasectomies. A board-certified urologist, Dr. Weissman completed his undergraduate studies in a pre-med program at the University of Minnesota from 1967 to 1970. After graduating from the University of Iowa Medical School in 1974, he and his wife moved to Portland, Oregon where he participated in a surgery internship at the University of Oregon. They returned to Iowa City in 1975 where he began his five years of residency training in the urology program at the University of Iowa. His formal training was completed at the University of Texas in Houston, where he studied male infertility and andrology. In 1980, Dr. Weissman and his family moved to Seattle, where he has since enjoyed providing patient care in private practice. In addition to having performed more than 7,500 vasectomies, Dr. Weissman has been an instructor for AVSC (Association for Voluntary Surgical Contraception). And under the support of Johns Hopkins University, he has traveled to Rwanda and Kenya where he has instructed local physicians in the technique of no-scalpel vasectomy. He has written and directed two No-Scalpel Vasectomy training videos in Kenya and Rwanda. He continues to specialize in both sterilization techniques as well as vasectomy reversal microsurgery. Dr. Weissman is also an active member of many local, regional and national medical associations and specialty societies.
