Most food fiends in town would agree that chef Barbara Lynch is outstanding in her field. But until now, they meant it only metaphorically. You see, Lynch (the star behind No. 9 Park, B&G Oysters, and The Butcher Shop) has just opened Plum Produce market, and she’s scoured the finest farms around to bring nearly impossible-to-find crops straight to you. Hankering for fresh green almonds from Cali and rainbow chard from Manhattan’s Union Square Market? Jonesing for delicate fraises des bois from the French countryside? If it’s in season, it’s here (as are local herbs and house-made confitures). Shelves are packed with the specialty fruits and veggies that have been on Lynch’s distinguished menus through the years but remained elusive to at-home chefs. So now you can pop a few micro greens from Sienna Farm into a white bean stew, then stand back while everyone marvels at how your fruit-and-vegetable repertoire has grown. And not once did you have to set foot in a field.
