http://slideshow.ivillage.com/food/thanksgiving_disasters/kitchen_kablooey_1.htmlThis is terrible! This is not what "Pyrex" is! I can't believe they are just going to ruin such a long-standing reputation. If it's expensive, maybe they should just charge more, people will pay for it if it does what it's meant to do, but nobody will buy it if they let this go on. I suppose most people are still using their older stuff so word hasn't gotten around too much...
Wow, thanks for commenting. I had never heard anything about this, but after looking into it online, I see that just in the past few years this has begun to be a problem because it's not made the same way it used to be. I'm sure lots of people thought like I did that Pyrex is virtually indestructible, having used Pyrex equipment in school science labs, but apparently today's "Pyrex" is not at all the same Pyrex we've used for years. I guess I won't be buying this!http://www.consumeraffairs.com/homeowners/pyrex.htmlhttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pyrex
I would be super careful about microwaving anything in Pyrex! It's not stable for boiling liquids, etc. in and soo not worth the risk of the explosion! If you want creamy hot chocolate, heat the milk on a stovetop in a small pot - the oft named butter warmer. Then with the packet in the mug, add a small bit of the milk to the mug, and mix with the powder to form a paste... then add the rest of the milk... Of course, With exceptional cocoa - there is so much milk in the powder, good water is your best bet... Adding milk to my fav cocoa would be overkill!
These cups are so great for microwaving milk for hot chocolate, so you can pour it into your mug with the mix in it. Works so much better than trying to stir the mix into a microwaved mug of milk, or trying to pour microwaved milk from a mug with no spout into another mug with the mix in it. I've been making a mess my whole life.
