I bought this, but it didn't work with my table. And as for restaurant highchairs, I bought a shopping cart cover that easily went over any highchair AND could be thrown in the wash. :)

It does look a little precarious but it grips underneath the table too, like a clamp. It grips harder when the baby is sitting in it, too. It never damaged my table but you could not pull it off with baby in it, as it gripped *really* well with the rubbery ends on it. I don't recommend using it on a table that is flimsy or lightweight (like a folding or cardtable) and they have recommendations for proper use, including lb restrictions.
How well does this work? It looks unstable to hang a baby off of a table like this...
I kept mine in my vehicle trunk. Great for small dining rooms at home and I LOVED that I never had to wipe down a seat at a restaurant from a prior messy occupant...let alone avoiding the germ factor.
