About the Royal Asscher® Cut: Many are attempting to copy this diamond, but there is only one original Royal Asscher Cut. It is cut and polished by the original Asscher family of Royal Asscher Diamond Company in Amsterdam. History: The history of Royal Asscher Diamond Company began in 1854. The family soon earned a respected reputation for cutting and polishing diamondseven those difficult to cut due to their unusual shape. King Edward VII of England entrusted Royal Asscher to cut the Cullinan, with a weight of 3,105 carats, the largest diamond ever found. This honorable assignment not only required a wealth of experience and enormous expertise, but also considerable strength. The two largest stones (Cullinan I and Cullinan II) can today be admired in the Imperial State Crown and the Imperial Sceptre in the Tower of London. To this day, Royal Asscher Diamond Company in Amsterdam receives distinguished clients and guests from all over the world. They include Emperor Hirohito and Emperor Akihito of Japan, Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain, Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, King Carl-Gustav and Queen Sylvia of Sweden, King Constantine and Queen Annemarie of Greece, and naturally Queen Beatrix and Prince Claus of the Netherlands. The original Asscher Cut and the new and improved Royal Asscher Cut: In 1902 Joseph Asscher designed and patented the Asscher Cut. Numerous emerald cuts have been sold as so-called Asscher Cuts, and this incited the Royal Asscher Diamond Company to improve the brilliancy of the Asscher Cut even more in the new model. This process took years of research. In this period numerous stones were cut and many computer simulations were made to eventually come to the optimal new Royal Asscher Cut, which combines the company's century-old tradition of diamond polishing with modern technology. What is special about this Royal Asscher Cut is the spectacular light reflection thanks to its 16 extra facets. The new model is square and has a total of 74 facets. The facet plan on a Royal Asscher is arranged to pull light deep into the stone, creating a spiral effect often likened to the undulating ripples that emanate from a small stone tossed into the center of a glassy pool. Unlike brilliant cuts, whose sole purpose is to repel light, the Royal Asscher Cut is meant to capture the singular beauty, originality, and personality of each individual stone, drawing the eye endlessly within it. How you know it is truly cut and polished by the original Asscher family: On the girdle (side) of the stone, the Royal Asscher Cut logo, as well as a unique number, is laser-inscribed. The unique number is stated on the Royal Asscher Cut certificate. All Royal Asscher Cuts are provided with a color and quality description from the worldwide-known laboratory of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in the USA or from the High Council for Diamonds in Antwerp (HRD).
