When the Black Plaque bacterium ravaged Europe, not everyone who came in contact with it died. Geneticist Steven O'Brien investigates why some survived by visiting a small English town struck by plague in 1665. Historical records, town archives, and modern forensic techniques construct a medical case study with startling implications: survivors carried a genetic mutation that made them immune to plague--and their descendants immune to AIDS.

I remember seeing this a few years ago. It was really interesting. Apparently a genetic mutation managed to save a certain village from either contracting or dying from (if they contracted it) the plague. Descendants of these villagers with the genetic mutation may well be resistant to AIDS. They spoke to and tested a gay man, most of whose friends contracted and died of AIDS in the 1980s. The man believes there's no reason he shouldn't have contracted AIDS along with his friends. He has this particular genetic mutation.
