In-depth Comparison of a Select Foam and TempurPedic Mattress Outlines the main differences in Foam, Health Benefits, and Overall Value Select Foam and Tempur-pedic offer very similar products in terms of overall feel, durability and quality. The biggest difference is seen in price, with a Tempurpedic mattress for example costing up to twice as much as a comparable Select Foam product. The reason we compare ourselves to Tempur-Pedic, and not another company that sells memory foam beds, is because Tempur-Pedic was the first company to bring memory foam to market, the largest foam mattress retailer, and the most highly advertised mattress company in the world. Foam Quality and Health Benefits Tempur-pedic has high quality beds that use high quality foam, but there are some drawbacks to the Tempur-pedic memory foam. First, Tempur-pedic uses such a firm base foam layer that its most popular modelsthe DeluxeBed, OriginalBed, and ClassicBedare a too firm for many people. We took that into consideration when we developed our Select Foam Collection, and while our orthopedic base foam provides plenty of support, it is not overly firm. Memory foam, by definition, is temperature sensitive. Unfortunately, all Tempur-pedic mattress models use memory foam that is very temperature sensitive. This means that in a slightly cool room, the bed will feel firm, and in a relatively warm room the mattress will be too soft. Select-HD memory foam is not as temperature sensitive, and as a result, more forgiving to different temperatures and climates. Both Select Foam and Tempur-pedic use memory foam that is 5.3 lb in density, with some Select Foam models featuring 8lb density foam. Both companies use American Made memory foam. The difference is this: Select Foam chooses its memory foam FOR EACH BED based ON the purpose of the foam, whereas Tempur-pedic only has two different types of foam with the same firmnesses, which they use in all nine models they sell. We use a total of six different types of foam, each extremely durable but each designed with a different purpose. For example, the memory foams used in our COOLMAX beds were specifically designed for maximum heat dissipation, while the memory foam in the flagship Grandis Bed was designed to be very soft for an ultra plush feel. Price The biggest difference between a Select Foam and Tempur-pedic mattress is the price! Our most popular bed, the Luxuria 10 has an extra inch of memory foam (what you really pay a premium for in memory foam mattress) compared to the Tempur-pedic DeluxeBed; in addition there is an upgraded cover and an airflow chamber, yet our bed costs less than half the Tempur-pedic mattress. As far as overall value goes, a Tempur-pedic mattress is no match against a SELECT-HD memory foam mattress from Select Foam. Review the charts on this page for more information.
