All light is measured in wavelengths ranging from the invisible UV (ultraviolet) through the visible colors and on farther to infrared light, which again you cannot see. The ultraviolet light generated by the UVC Germicidal Sterilamp® from Philips is at a wavelength of 254 nanometers (or 254 billionths of a meter) and its photons have the exact energy needed to destroy the DNA of all kinds of microorganisms, including bacteria, mold spores and viruses. Because this ultraviolet light kills by physical destruction of the DNA, germs cannot develop immunity to it; unlike antibacterial agents, no bacteria can become resistant to UVC. AirSanitizer is an important, timely new product with a powerful ultraviolet germicidal Sterilamp® that is specially configured to help reduce all kinds of bacteria and viruses that are dispersed into the air of an average-size room. The hidden Philips Sterilamp looks like an ordinary fluorescent bulb but its UVC technology is proven-effective at reducing the risk of infection in hospitals, clinics and in commercial settings (particularly food service). In fact, ultraviolet germicidal irradiation (UVGI) was recently shown in a clinical trial to significantly reduce respiratory symptoms of office workers when installed in building ventilation systems. How AirSanitizer works. Inside the AirSanitizer tower, the UVC Sterilamp is surrounded by an aluminum cylinder that is polished to a mirrorlike finish. This reflecting chamber maximizes the intensity of the UVC light more than doubling its germ-killing effectiveness.
