See more » Now I'm sure you don't need me to tell you just how frustrating shaving/waxing/epilating can be, and no matter how silky smooth your legs are one day that give a day they'll be bristling with pesky stubble. Up till now options were fairly limited; wear jeans all the time and wax every four weeks, hair remove and deal with the chemical smell, or splash out and go for laser hair removal, the only permanent treatment around. Problem is , laser hair removal costs serious bucks, as it's approx £50 a time for your underarms or £200 for your legs, and you need 6-8 treatments on average. Now I've already tried laser treatment before at the sk:n clinic so I can testify it does work, but I want something that isn't going to have my bank manger chasing me down the street with a sharp object. And then the Tria comes along, an all in one DIY laser hair removal device that promises you salon results at home. Now here's the science bit... The Tria will only work on fair to medium complexions, as the laser is attracted to the melanin in the sin, and could potentially burn darker skin tones. The booklet warns you not to use it on burnt skin, open sores, all the usual safety stuff. The hairdryer like Tria is actually a diode laser that emits a short pulse of red light every time all three sensors are in contact with your skin. Each area takes about a second to do and then you move on, but be warned the laser head is very small, so it will take a while. I did both y legs last night and that took about an hour; but getting to do it whilst watching TV really isn't that bad. There are three settings, from low to high, and the best results are with high, so work up to it. It really isn't that bad, as I was using level 2 yesterday, and just so you know my pain threshold- I find waxing THE MOST painful thing EVER. Unlike my salon treatments (on my underarms, if you must know), you need to be freshly shaved for the Tria, otherwise every beep, will be extra painful. The instructions also say you can repeat the treatment every 2-4 weeks, unlike the strict 6 week rule that salons enforce. Above you can see a picture from one of the test subjects and I think the results look pretty good. I'm testing it now, so look out for a follow up in a few moths time with a before after pic, as well as a video showing you exactly how it works.
