Luxury Travel: How long has OnTheSnow been online? Chad Dyer: Mountain News Corporation, which owns OnTheSnow, was founded in the 1960’s to disseminate snow conditions for skiers via radio. In the ‘90’s, it evolved on the internet as a commercial entity. It’s been online for eleven years now. Luxury Travel: The website covers more than mountain snow conditions for ski vacations. Chad Dyer: Yes, you’re right. It provides information related to many aspects of winter ski vacations, such as other snow sport content, season pass information for many ski resorts, deals for ski vacation packages at luxury hotels, resort reviews. We have over 3,000 news items every winter. OnTheSnow also provides snow sports information for Yahoo, CNN, MSNBC, and 900 radio stations around the world. Luxury Travel: Which ski resorts are included? Chad Dyer: Every resort in North America is included. We source out information not just by major ski vacation destinations, but also by day ski areas. So, not just Aspen and Vail, but every local ski area in the United States. Luxury Travel: How is all this information managed? Chad Dyer: We have 12 regional editors and a news desk. The best ski resorts, from luxury to midrange, all provide a minimum of daily updates regarding snow, weather, and surface conditions at their ski vacation spots. This information is authenticated by our news desk. Luxury Travel: Who uses OnTheSnow? Chad Dyer: We get over 1.1 million unique visitors a month. Our research shows that the typical user is an affluent family planning a luxury ski vacation. Day trips are also frequently researched. 60% more of our users have children, and 45% more of our users claim an income of over $150,000, compared to other ski resort information websites. Chad Dyer sent an audit of one month’s website traffic. It shows quite clearly that in January of last year, OnTheSnow received over six million page views from over a million unique visitors (in other words, visitors tend to read close to six web pages).
