In the photo above there is a picture of an innovative jacket designed for the polite smoker by Fiona Carswell, a recent graduate of the Interactive Telecommunications Program (ITP) at NYU. The Smoking Jacket allows a smoker to blow cigarette smoke into a valve in the collar of the jacket instead of someone's face. The smoke goes down into a pair of transparent plastic lungs built into the jacket. Over time these built in lungs become stained and visible to the world as well as the wearer. The more a smoker blows into the lungs the darker they become. "This project was a result of exploring reflective design as it relates to the body, behavioral choices, and information displays," Fiona explains on her website. Fiona Carswell is also the designer of wearable Body Marks (moles, scars, birthmarks), the Clutch Gloves, and the Malignant Mole Bikini. The wearable Body Marks can be worn on top of clothes. The Clutch Gloves require two people to hold hands in order to keep their hands warm. The Malignant Mole Bikini grows moles when exposed to UV sunlight.
