Phone Number of Book Sale Workshop: 814-235-6884 We are not equipped to accept credit cards. An ATM machine is located in lobby of the Visitors Center across the street from the Ag Arena. The Visitors Center opens at 9 a.m. Who Frequents the Sale and Why The State College AAUW Used Book Sale is one of the largest on the East Coast, attracting dealers and private patrons from as far away as Maine, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, New York and Ohio. Last year, more than 9,000 people took advantage of the bargains offered during the 4-day sale. The reason for the sale’s popularity? Most importantly, books are priced to sell. In addition, they are culled throughout the year by volunteers who discard damaged, highlighted and out-of-date books, making this one of the “cleanest” sales around. Also, for our patrons’ convenience, books are sorted into more than 25 categories and are displayed on more than 250 tables with all titles available from the beginning of the sale. Cookbooks, children’s and collectors’ books are perennial best sellers. (Categories are listed below.) Although the sale is organized and run by the State College Branch of AAUW, it is indeed the result of great community spirit and cooperation. Throughout the year, books are donated by individuals and organizations from all around the Centre region. Volunteers cull, sort, price and pack the books, and more than 250volunteers transport the books from our workshop to the Ag Arena and set them up for the sale. During the fall and winter months, we will be at the work shop on Monday evenings, 7-9 p.m.; Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Our new work shop is located at 2100 East College Avenue on the Benner Pike in the building that used to house the Amish Country Peddler. As you head toward the Nittany Mall from State College, after you pass the traffic light at the Houserville Rd./Pike Street intersection at Lemont and as you are traveling up the hill, you will make a right turn between the signs for Pinehurst Homes and the Caspian Spa. After you turn into the driveway, proceed STRAIGHT UP THE HILL to the end of the parking lot. The bins will be on the left, next to the door marked Suite 2100D. To return to State College, if you don’t want to make a left turn onto the Benner Pike, you can go around the building, exit in back of the property to the right onto Limerock Terrace, and follow that road down to Pike Street. It comes out next to the Sheetz store. PLEASE DO NOT leave in the bins: ¨ Encyclopedias ¨ Magazines (We DO accept children’s, art or craft (stitchery, etc.) magazines, or magazines featuring recipes like Gourmet or Southern Living. Books to Contribute? THE BINS WILL BE TAKEN IN ON SUNDAY, MARCH 18TH, 2007.
