What is important to you and your family? As a single father managing the health requirements of my 2 sons, its a constant balance at diner between giving them what they want and thinking of their health. Now days we as parents are busier than ever and the convenience of a quick meal compared to making something more healthy is a never ending struggle. So what can you do for your children's health? For starters if you understand that children's feelings about themselves often are based on their parents' feelings about them. If you accept your children at any weight, they will be more likely to accept and feel good about themselves. It is also important to talk to your children about health and weight, allowing them to share their worries with you. Here's some things you can do to help your child's health * Be a role model for your children. If your children see that you are physically active and have fun, they are more likely to be active and stay active for the rest of their lives. So get out and play with them. Get out into the great outdoors with them. Exercise yourself too. * Plan family activities that provide everyone with exercise and enjoyment, like walking, dancing, biking, or swimming. For example, schedule a walk with your family after dinner instead of watching TV. Make sure that you plan activities that can be done in a safe environment. Get them away from video games and the computer for a while see the difference it makes. * Be sensitive to your child's needs. Overweight children may feel uncomfortable about participating in certain activities. It is important to help your child find physical activities that they enjoy and that aren't embarrassing or too difficult. * Become more active throughout your day and encourage your family to do so as well. For example, walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, or do some activity during a work or school break-get up and stretch or walk around. Do sit ups or just walk more. * Eat more healthy foods. Lead by example drink water instead of soft drink. Look at the labels n super markets and see how much sugar the product contains. * Avoid sugars and large meals at night.
