I was hoping to avoid making a scarf just because a scarf seems like the most obvious thing to do with the yarn. The yardage and weight are good for socks, but I don't know if the merino/tencel would really take the punishment as socks. I thought about a pair of lacy gloves, as a fashion device, not really for warmth. It's not really my kind of project, since I'm more of a functional knitter. Then I thought about how people don't find lacy gloves ridiculous, but have you ever seen lacy mittens? Coming back to the task at hand, I thought about a lacy hat, maybe starting with a doily pattern as a beret top, again more fashion than warmth. I thought about a pillbox-shaped hat in seed stitch, which probably very few knitters would ever want to knit. I thought about Wendy B's purled beret and said, Drat, already been done. I swatched a bit in brioche stitch, which was slow going and ate up yardage fast. I thought maybe I could do something different with the the traditional watch cap idea. But again, I wondered how many knitters will have the patience to work extra rows of knitting on #2 needles for a rather clunky looking fabric.
