"I have checked this out and seen both beds and the Modloft cheaper version is a knock off of the original design. The copy is made in China and the original is made in Italy. The copy uses lots of particle board while the Italian version uses an eco-wood. A cheaper knock off is not necessary a bad thing, but there was a for sure difference in the quality of the construction on the corners and seams where pieces joined. I am considering the Italian version because my partner has some serious allergies and there was less off-gassing and smell, it seemed to me from the original design. Ok, I almost had a heart attack when I saw the price was $1198. Click on the buy button, and it takes you to the Haiku Designs (http://www.haikudesigns.com) website, where my original statements still are true. Maybe the website is out-of-date?Posted by linuxracr at 8:55 AM on 3/30/08Report Spam
The funny thing is that there is a company called Haiku Designs selling the bed as "The Tokyo Platform Bed", for $2,900, and that's just the bed (Eastern King)! If you want the headrest pillows, be prepared to shell out another $695! Of course that was the first place I saw that bed, and had no idea that it was made by Modloft, and went by a different name. A couple of months go by,and the wife and I had lost hope, were about to buy another bed that was more cost effective, but not the one we really wanted. One day I was poking around, searching for other platform beds, and boom, I find the same bed, but with a different name (Monroe Geo Platform Bed by Modloft). The price was sooooo right, ($1,500, and we could get the headrest pillows, and the nightstands all for under $2000) so the wife and I jumped on it. So glad we didn't jump on the other bed. Thank you God!Posted by linuxracr at 8:50 AM on 3/30/08Report Spam
