Evening Shawl with Embroidery on Wool Fabric from Kashmir Kashmiri Embroidery is remarkable more for the skilled execution of a single stitch rather tha the elaborate quality of the stitch itself. Chain stitch, satin stitch, the slanted darn stitch, stem, herringbone and sometimes the doori or knot stitch are used. Excellence in wielding the needle created the dorukha in embroidery, in which there is no right and wrong side and the same design is reproduced in different colors on both sides. This technique is executed by splitting the underlying yarn in two with the use of a very fine needle so that the entire fabric is not pierced.
