1. Which font should I use while contributing my articles to Nilacharal? We are using TheneeUni Unicode font. It is preferable, if you could send your articles in any of the Unicode fonts. Latha and Arial Unicode MS are the two Unicode fonts already installed in your system if you are using Windows 2000/2003/XP. 2. How can I type Tamil in Unicode format? * Notepad, WordPad, MS Office XP and its later versions support Unicode Tamil typing. * To type in tamil in these applications, you need to install a tamil typewriting interface utility. E-kalappai is such a utility and it can be downloaded for free from here. http://thamizha.com/modules/mydownloads/viewcat.php?cid=3 * After installing e-kalappai, an icon will be placed on the task bar. * Click on the icon and select UNICODE TAMIL * Then start typing in tamil in any of the applications mentioned above. 3. I am unable to read Tamil Unicode characters properly. They appear as squares in MS Word. To overcome this problem, the following steps have to be performed in your operating system (applies only to Windows XP / 2000) : * Click on "Start ->Control Panel->Date, Time, Language and Regional Options->Regional and Language Options" * Click on 'Languages' tab at the top * In 'Supplemental language support', click the checkbox "Install files for Complex Script and right to left languages (including Thai)" and then click OK * Now, it will start installing some required files and Windows XP CD will be required to complete the process. * You might have to restart the machine for the new setting to take effect. 4. I have the content typed in TSC / TAB / TAM / Bamini font. How do I convert it into Unicode? A lot of font converter tools are available in internet for free. A handy Unicode converter tool powered by Umar can be downloaded from the following link : http://mathy.kandasamy.net/unicode/A2Usetup.zip This tool is of 1.1 MB size. You can easily download and install in your system. This tool is very simple to use. The online font converters powered by Suratha Yarlvanan are available in the following link www.suratha.com. 5.
