Though images have leaked here and there, not much was known about the LG VX10000 from Verizon Wireless. Sure, when open, it looks like the QWERTY-obsessed LG enV, but when closed, it's got way more of a Prada—or dare I say iPhone?—vibe. More details and full gallery after the jump. I'm excited about this phone, which will probably land in the $250-$300 range when it hits in mid November. It's much more of an engaging piece of technology than the enV ever was (in part thanks to a bigger WQVGA screen). Also, as a touchscreen device, it's closer to iPhone than Chocolate, though it does incorporate some snazzy force feedback. Using flicks and drags, you can scroll through long lists of contacts with your thumb, tap on selected parts of HTML webpages using a thumbnail view and swipe through menus and media playlists easily. OK, it's not Apple—not yet near—but it's a good start. Since it's a Verizon media powerhouse, it has V Cast Music and Video, plus the new MediaFLO streaming TV (where available). On the sideloading front, it will take MP3s, WMAs and non-DRM AACs. And it supports microSDHC cards up to 8GB. Do I love it? Not sure yet, but I'm definitely interested in giving it a try. I love my vx10000 but I do have one major complaint: battery life is pretty lame. My first battery required a recharge almost every day, so I took it back to the store and they replaced the battery. After a month, I am down to about a day and a half worth of charge. I do a lot of text messaging and some talking, but no video or music and very little web browsing. I do use the VZ Navigator a lot, but even when I don't use that, I often have to recharge in fewer than 2 days.
Other than battery life, I love this phone's features, such as the large screens, the inside keyboard, and the speakerphone. The camera sucks in low light, and the autofocus causes a slow response, but is very good otherwise. Voice recording is of good quality. As for ringtones, I make my own all the time but I also like the ones the phone comes with. I wish I could adjust the ringtone volume to be a little louder.
I have the unlimited mobile plan and find the internet to be slow on occasion, but usually it's fine for quick tasks like checking your mail, movies and the weather. I have gone to regular websites on it but I hate running the battery down for that so I only do that to show off to my friends how great the pages look!
