See more » Vintage HOBE Rare SAPHIRET Rhinestone Pink Slag Hearts Pendant Brooch & Earrings Set Demi Parure is a creation you see and say: "Be still my heart"..... This set says "Happy Valentines, Sweetheart" in every way you can to the Hobe lover, the Saphiret lover & the more discerning vintage jewelry collector. The pink slag glass heart petal shaped stones in this set, exclusive to the Hobe designs of 1962 were named "Mayorka Petals". Appropriately dubbed, for their resemblance to the Mayorka flowers of Mallorka, Spain. The Mayorkas are set in ornate kings crown prongs embellished with faux pearls, sparkling diamantes, and the ever so rare and exquisite Saphiret pears and navettes. The navettes are wired over the Mayorka petals on the pendant brooch, and again, the saphiret pears are wired over on the earrings. All looking like floating, glimmering buds of mystic aqua blues and deep pinks. The color variations of the saphirets is accomplished through the use of real gold in the glass making process of the stones. Each piece is marked Hobe in gold tone plating. This specialty line along with Hobe ads from 1962, can be viewed in "Collecting Costume Jewelry 202" by Julia Carroll, Page 354. Hobe was one of the landmark costume jewelry companys from the late 1800's in Paris and remained in business until 1992 in the US. Hobe's fame took off when William, one of Jacques' sons, was commissioned to create real looking jewelry for the Ziegfeld Follies.
