From some of the most talented artists and storytellers ever to put pen to paper, ID-Wall are thrilled to present a series of prints from the Virgin Comics archive. Featuring five groundbreaking character concepts based on the revived and reinvented mythical narratives of Asia , this collection represents todays culture-embracing and border-breaking class of superhero. First up is 7 Brothers latest brain-child of John Woo and his cohorts. With films like Face/Off and Mission: Impossible II under his black belt, this is one man who knows how to tell a story loaded with high velocity action, and 7 Brothers is no rom com. Starring seven unrelated heroes drawn together by a mysterious young woman in a bid to save the world from an ancient and powerful threat, this is classic blockbuster territory, fraught with dramatic tension and topped with an explosive climax, and these gloriously colourful and detailed illustrations capture this perfectly. The second of these five epics is Ramayan 3392 AD a lone beacon of hope in a futuristic world poisoned by the armies of the merciless Ravan. Having been exiled from his fatherland, Rama embarks upon a Lord of the Rings-style journey of discovery and adventure across the world with the ultimate aim of cleansing the world of this vile darkness, and the accompanying imagery depicts his clashes, set in stunning locations, in astonishing detail. Next, the first of two divine heroines is Devi. Here the polar extremes of pure evil and a striving for humanity are captured as Devi, an almighty female warrior cast from the sacrifice of several Gods, is reincarnated at an apocalyptical moment in history to combat the Dark Lord and his insatiable lust for the enslavement of mankind. His timeless mission will be completed if only he can lay his thieving hands on The Source, the greatest power in the entire world, the bearer of which controls the heavens and earth. Devis battle to save mankind is reflected in her desire to bring her sole ally Raoul, alcohol-sodden detective and social pariah, back from the brink of self destruction in an attempt to humanise herself and salvage some of the girl hidden in the immensity and responsibility of the Goddess. Our second female star is Jessica Peterson, aka Snake Woman, a young waitress in a sleazy LA bar who, when accosted by a rather over-attentive customer, strikes back with uncharacteristic venom and kills him. The resulting waves of arousal and satisfaction that course through her serpentine body herald the first glimpses of the soul of the snake that claims her as, according to India s ancient Naga legends, she gradually surrenders to the creature within. Laid out in stark detail, the illustrations that portray this moral and physical metamorphosis are both sinister and seductive, and flawlessly executed. Finally we have The Sadhu, or The Mystic, a tale of realisation and acceptance that follows James Jensen, a confused and angry British soldier who, when his family are murdered, is taken in by a brutal but spiritual band of Indian killers whose leader teaches him to control his thirst for revenge and embrace the inner calm of the Sadhu. At times peaceful and serene, and at others extremely violent, this imagery is symbolic of the trials and ultimate rewards that we all may face in our lifetimes.
