I have always shopped at Walmart because of the excellent service and prices they offer. I sent an American Express Gift card for my son and his family on 7/2/09. I live in HI. My son lives in TX. They received the card within less than a week. When they tried to use it, it was declined. My son recently moved to TX and is just getting established. He has 2 young children. They needed to purchase food. I emailed Walmart x2 for assistance with the declined card. I received 1 response telling me to call services M-F, 9-5. My son called both Amer Express & Walmart to no avail. I called Walmart only to be told they could do nothing to activate the card; they were having having problems wirh American Express. I explained the situation with my son & his family. Walmart suggested purchasing a rechargable card for them which meant going to the nearest Walmart store. I just had eye surgery and was unable to drive. Finally, I was told that they would try to expedite an authorization to have the charge activated. I was given a number to check the card's status. That number was unavailable 10 minutes prior closing of the published office hours. It's the weekend. I have to wait till Mon to pursue this issue. In the meantime, my son and his family still need to purchase food. I am angry and hurt that Walmart has my money for a service I purchased and have chosen not to deliver. I have checked the website and this product is still available for purchase. I am hoping that Walmart can resolve this problem before I dispute it through my bank. My son's family still needs to eat.
