The twist-off bottle cap was invented in 1956. While most domestic beers use twist-offs, many imports and many micro-brews still use crown caps that require an opener. Of course, it just looks so much cooler to use a wall-mounted bottle opener than to struggle with a twist-off. Of course, the coolest is when you open the bottle with your teeth.
