Flat stomach is certainly one of the symbols of sex appeal. However, reducing belly fat is not only related to the good looks. It is closely related to good health too. While most people are aware that the excess fat is unhealthy, few people realize that belly fat is actually the worst kind of fat that can seriously threaten your health. Read on and you will see why belly fat is so dangerous and how to reduce it. Many researches have found that people with apple-shaped bodies (those who have big bellies) are much prone to a number of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer. The risk seems to be greater even among people who are not obese, or overweight, but have a sizable belly. A recent study have even linked belly fat to Alzheimer's disease showing that people in their 40s who have big bellies are more likely to become confused, forgetful, get other forms of dementia or show other signs of senility in their 70s. Why does fat in the abdomen (or belly fat) bring more risks than fat in the hips, buttocks, thighs, and etc.? Researches have shown that belly fat is more dangerous because of its proximity to your major organs. Additionally, you should know that abdominal fat can be both visceral (around the liver and other organs) and subcutaneous (accumulated just under the skin). The subcutaneous belly fat is harder to reduce but it is less harmful. The visceral belly fat on the other hand is what causes the bigger problems. It is mobile and circulates in your body as fatty acids. Those fatty acids release free radicals when they break down which damages the cells. Eat right and exercise regularly - you are probably already bored by these lines but this is exactly the right way to reduce belly fat. Clean up your diet by reducing deep-fried foods and refined foods. Consume large amounts of greens and fruits which will increase the level of antioxidants in your body and deal with cell damaging. Cut down on alcohol which increases fat accumulation. Half an hour of cardio two times a week is just not enough to reduce that belly fat significantly. Focus on the intensity of your workouts and work your body as a whole, not just the abdominal area. Finally, if you really want to get rid of your belly fat and get "killer" six-pack abs you will need a comprehensive fat-burning program that includes an effective exercise routine and a proper diet that is actually burning fat. We can highly recommend you Mike Geary's "Truth about Six Pack Abs" book and Tom Venuto's "Burn The Fat, Feed The Muscle" book - two of the best fat-burning systems that have helped thousands of men and women reduce their belly fat permanently.
