It stands approx 6" tall, glowing Blacklight through the use of UV LED light in base. (batts included) Would be a great addition to any Steampunk collection. This device was used by sky pirates to detect Royal Fleet airships by means of picking up the high frequencies put out by their Tesla generators...Salvaged from the Ship "Crosswinds" that was brought down by a severe storm over a farm field many years ago.... A beautiful light by River Otter Widget Studios, This globe style lamp features quilted glass and the brightest LEDS I have used yet. Continually shifts color. The diamond pattern in the large globe refracts into thousands of shards of light when in a darkened room, and is quite a stunning piece. Hand painted rivets encircle the rust patinaed base as well. Measures a whopping 20" (about the size of a head of lettuce to give you an idea) around globe and stands approx 7 1/2" high. With the advent of wireless energy transmission, by famed inventor, and household name, Nikola Tesla, came many variations of his original design for the household receiver used to harness the power generated from the Wardenclyffe tower. As with any new technology, manufacturers of these products were eager to have them on the market as soon as they could, thus sacrificing aesthetics for functionality at first. With the exception of the rare tabletop versions used on airships. These were small, and had an elegant look about them, with the finest brass and components used to blend in with the decor. This one was salvaged off of the skyliner "Edison" which crashed into some outdated powerlines, that had yet to be taken down.... This one of a kind art light, was built by myself here at River otter Widget Studios, and represents and alternate history, of what could have been. From fine brass, to the cage surrounding a glass tube that glows green, it's all in the details with this one.... See less

Rounding a heap of old Tesla generators, I stood in awe of the hulking behemoth before me. The writing on it's hull just barely visible, but still readable. "Slipstream II" This was one of the first true Intergalactic airships, and had been an engineering marvel in it's day. Of course I had to bring back a few odds and ends..ahem! This little wonder Was made by SpaceSeed Inc. (copper tag at top of light says so :) and came from one of the crew quarters. I say it was multitasking and space saving at it's finest! Every single crew member from officer to deckhand was required to help provide food along the journey, by utilizing these lights in their living quarters throughout the ship. The job of the LAR was to bend light waves to help in the cloaking of fleeing pirate ships. When being pursued by the Royal Fleet, this came in handy as all airships in the queens arsenal used tracking globes......This Lamp was created by me at River Otter Widget Studios and features a corded 110v standard bulb socket in the glass base, using a Multiple LED bulb that changes from red,green,blue,purple/pink transitioning from each color smoothly. The pics do not do it justice when lit up. The upper portion of the lamp is brass with copper,patina highlights.with an electron tube in the very top. It stands Approx 9 1/2" tall overall.This would make a great addition to any Steampunk Fantasy collection.
