You can plug your ethernet cable to the WAN port, and then you can run a cable from the LAN port to your computer. The result is that the phone is on all the time, independent of your computer. My initial and main concern was voice quality. I am happy to report that the quality is very good. I have asked several people to rate the quality during conversations. With cell phone conversations, people have given 7.5 to 8 / 10. With landline conversations, people have said that it is just like talking to someone on another landline.
