For 2007 riders for the Kazakh-based Team Astana (led by Alexander Vinoukorov) found themselves perched atop these formidable bikes. BMC unveiled the SLC01 as the official team bike for the most elite of Phonak's 2005 Tour de France squadron. Although we didn't catch glimpses of the bike on our shores until the 2005 Interbike, when we did finally see it we were stunned. The Street Fire is a fantastic bike. In fact, most of us were skeptical that a full aluminum frameset costing under $750 could ride any better than a vintage American Flyer wagon. But we have all come to relish time on this bike. It is phenomenally light, weighing less than 17.5 pounds for a size medium even when built up with Mavic Equipe wheels and an Ultegra 10-speed group! And, for an all aluminum frame, it is nearly as solid and smooth as many carbon frames we offer. The Street Fire is our best selling BMC, many of which are sold to women. We find the Street Fire tends to fit our smaller riders exceptionally well, and its low weight and relaxed handling characteristics make it all the more appealing to petite persons.
