Thick heels? Good or bad?

Okay, I've been seeing a lot of these super chunky shoes with the thick heels lately. I think they are hideous. I read a designer saying that they are better for the feet because of the support, which makes complete sense, but I just can't get over how they look. And most of them are brightly, multi-colored shoes like the one in the middle. What do you think? Am I being too critical? Anyone have some shoes like this? Want them? I haven't seen any pictures of people wearing them- only...
