(01/17/12) This wonderfully whimsical teak hippo is a member of the much loved Zoo Line, a run of wooden animals sold as souvenirs at zoos in the late 50's. Much like the wooden animals of Kay Bojesen, this super fun hippo displays a very humorous take on the animal, and combines everything great about Danish design and vintage toy aesthetics. Marked "Copyright 1958 Zoo Line," this little guy is in great vintage condition, complete with his original tail. There is a small spot on his lower chin, visible in image 1, and the hinge on his mouth is slightly askew, though his mouth still shuts nicely. All in all, this piece is in great shape; furthermore, he still has his original Zoo Line sticker! With a small space inside his mout to store your jewelry, and with hinged eyes to boot, this wonderful teak hippo is everything we love about Mid Century design. See less

The bowl features five of my fat birds approximately 5" in length mounted on the rim of a hand turned hardwood (beech) bowl. The unfinished bowl (by others) is 9" in diameter and 2 and 5/8" high to the rim. I applied several coats of finish prior to hand waxing the natural colored bowl. The birds are mounted securely to the rim of the bowl. All of my pieces are individually carved, assembled, finished, signed and dated by me. They are intended for home or office display.
