The Shangri-La Day Spa is a diamond in the ruff on the Upper West Side; it is surrounded by three other spas on the street, but the simplicity draws in customers. As soon as I walked in the door, the hustle and bustle from the street became a silent whisper.The relaxed atmosphere, was complimented by soft Indian music and scattered candles. Iwas met with experienced massage therapists as well as the owner herself. She explainedto me about the garden and the usage of it during the spring and summertime for massages. One thing that separates this spa from the pack is the belief in not using any special tools such as hot rocks, because they believe in the “human touch”. They hope to connect with their customers, so that they may leave feeling invigorated. The one word that would best describe this spa is humble.
