Starbucks

This is approx a 5 minute walk from your hotel (I was just there this morning!). Also in this little cluster is a sushi place (not good if you're a vegetarian) and a Senor Jalapeno's (with a special vegetarian section of the menu, if you like mexican).

Mexican is good. Sushi is not since we definitely don't do sushi and the children will be in Africa. (They love sushi.) Now, tell us about the Starbucks. How many machines? Real or automatic machines? Baristas who say huh when you order or know what it means to order a quad venti Caramel Macchiatto.

I've never seen a machine at a SBUX here that wasn't automatic. All of the SBUX employees at all of the SBUX I've ever been to in California know their menu.

oh good! (well not the automatic thing)

But...but...light rail will take you to a Whole Foods! (I'm biased)

Well, I was going to add Whole Foods. You see, the problem with Trader Joe's is that Denise does food related stuff at work (bizarre if you actually know her). Trader Joe's foods are oft mentioned and we have NO Trader Joe's anywhere close. I, however, have Whole Foods fantasy moments where our cruddy Mother Earth magically transforms into a Whole Foods. I actually had hunt to see if there is a Whole Foods anywhere nearby on my to-do list for this trip. I missssssssssss Whole Foods. I had one when I lived in Oregon.

But WHICH light rail stop takes you to whole foods?

Hamilton stop on the MV-Winchester line.

Sample Ladies! Flea Market!

You know, I've lived here for more than ten years and have never been to the Flea Market. But plenty of people I know have been there, and do love it! If you are renting a car, that would be the way to go (light rail doesn't go there).

Well, maybe we should drag you with us in that case. Geez, people who live places never see anything in their own town.

Apple Store

See this at: apple.com| Added on 01/12/06

How to get here: The Apple Store, Oakridge is located at 925 Blossom Hill Road, Suite 1541 next to BJ’s restaurant.

Highlights: Between September 27, 2005, and January 16, 2006, buy an Apple computer and a qualifying printer and save up to $100.

The Apple Store in Valley Fair Mall is actually closer. If you will have a car, I'd go to the Valley Fair location on Stevens Creek Blvd. If you are public transportation-dependent, the Oakridge location has a light rail stop.

Good to know. I think we will probably not actually go to the Apple store. Then again, we may get Apple lust in a big way when we see all the cool Bloghers with Apples while we have our uncool pcs.

The Starbucks was very good. (and did you know they have sandwiches!) However, that Starbucks is NOT OPEN ON SUNDAY. Neither is anything else in San Jose.

um, all of our starbucks have sandwiches...sorry I didn't mention it! I didn't know that particular starbucks isn't open on sunday. must be because it's in corporate-land. san jose usually doesn't close on sunday. i know a lot of places did because they would have lost money b/c of the champ car race.

Are the sandwiches any good? Have you had one? The egg salad looked surprisingly promising. I have only ever seen sandwiches in the airport Starbucks before. We really didn't do anything except hike over to Starbucks on Sunday. Denise was a bit under the weather. Ordering food on a Sunday night was problematic. I was seriously wishing I had gotten your number, so I could call and say "help, I need food and this hotel hasn't given us any delivery options other than room service. Tell me who to call."
