Residents are selected on a fair and equal basis without regard to race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Selection is based on aptitude, academic credentials, personal characteristics, and ability to communicate verbally and in writing. All applicants are required to complete and submit via ERAS the common application form (CAF), board scores (USMLE or COMLEX) [a minimum passing score is required], at least 2 letters of recommendation, a personal statement, a dean's letter, a medical school transcript, a photo (photo's cannot be viewed until an interview has been offered), and for foreign medical graduates; ECFMG Status Report. The minimum requirements for application are passing scores on Part I of the USMLE or COMLEX. Part II must be passed prior to ranking of the individual. For international medical graduates who need a visa, J-1 visas are supported by the department. Applicants must be able to obtain a South Carolina limited medical license.
