Description: This antique print of Grapes [vitis vinifera] is from the beautifully illustrated work A Folio of Fruit, by Austrian painter Carlos von Riefel. From specialty art publisher Ariel Press, London, 1957; plates made and printed in Germany by K.G. Lohse GmbH. In the introduction to this superb portfolio of paintings, Eva Mannering writes, "While [Riefel's] work is objectivist in its botanical accuracy, there is a richness in his colouring and a masterly composition of subject which reveal the creative interpretation of the true artist . . . His fruits were painted in his village garden, they come from trees and shrubs planted by himself, tended over many years, affectionately watched over through the seasons.
