The Disappearing 9 Patch block is great. Very easy to make, but looks quite impressive when done! I first discovered it in a book called "Magic Pillows, Hidden Quilts" by Karin Hellaby. I've since seen it on line in various places and using different names. Here's a little tutorial on how to make a scrappy version. Firstly - select and stitch together 9 squares. For maximum contrast try and get 5 darker prints and 4 lighter prints arranged with the darker prints as the X of the 9 patch. Square this up, then cut through the block both vertically and horizontally. (My starting squares were 4", so I squared up to 11", then cut to make each new block 5.5".) Turn blocks to rearrange pattern. This is my finished incuabtor sized quilt which used 3 of the original 9 patch blocks. Easy peasey!! See less

A couple of people have asked me if I use a pattern for the little bags I sew. Not usually, but the bags are generally adaptations of one basic design. I thought I'd share that design in case anyone is interested. First, cut out the fabric! You can cut out either one piece where the fold would be the bottom of the bag or two pieces (you'd have to cut out two pieces if the pattern in the fabric goes in one direction; otherwise, the design would be upside down on one side of the bag). I use 1/4" seam allowances, so if you want the finished bag to be 5" wide and 7" tall, your one piece would need to be 5 1/2" wide and 14 1/2" long. The example is one piece, folded: You will want to cut a lining as well. It will be the same size as the exterior. Stitch the sides of the bag, right sides together and using a 1/4" seam. Also stitch the bottom if you cut two pieces instead of one. Next, you will sew in the corners of the bottom of the bag to create a flat bottom. Grab the bottom corner and... See less

Here goes, I'm going to try and do this but my computer keeps crashing, if there are any glaring errors I'll put them right asap. Here comes a poor quality photo again, I still haven't sussed out what's wrong with the scanner. Enlarge to whatever size you wish, just measure the length of baby's ( or Mama's ) foot. Cut 4 boot pieces and 2 sole pieces as shown. Now do the same for the lining. The easiest way to do this is to lay your fabric right sides together, and then pin and cut out together. Pin and stitch the sides of each boot ( right sides together) And then stitch the boot to the sole as shown, don't forget to mark the front and back centre points on the soles - it makes it a lot easier to position correctly. Now turn under and press a small hem at the top of each boot and it's lining. Now slot the lining into it's boot with wrong sides together, Finish off with a decorative stitch to close and maybe some yo-yo's. There's a great tutorial at Heather's. I suspect Mummy's have...
