This was the second time i read this book. Very cool little book. Some chapters are really cool and some of them are whatever. It really all depends on how one is interested in Japan. My favorite chapters dealt with the bosozoku and the otaku. Bosozoku loosely translates into speed tribes. the bosozoku are basically motorcycle gang members lots of leather and poofy hair styles. They basically look like America's '50s rebels. The Otaku are the obsessed fans from comic books to singing idols. Greenfeld's book is a nice glimpse inside the lives of this new generation of japanese the children of the Shinjinrui. good stuff. As for the Otaku section many Americans my see themselves in these introverted kids who are shy to the outside world and respond better with computers and such.
