I saw a ring version of this over at Camilla's a couple months back and I thought it would make a quick, easy stocking stuffer for a crafter. Here's a short tutorial for a wrist version (sorry about all the dark photos): Materials: Plastic beverage cap (I used a 1-3/4 inch diameter Gatorade cap) Rubber hair bands Polyfill stuffing 6 inch diameter circle of fabric glue gun 1. Drill 2 holes along the equator of the plastic cap large enough to string the rubber hair band through. 2. Cut a piece of hair band long enough to fit snuggly over your wrist plus approx 2 inches (for tieing off). Knot one side of the hair band several times and then string through the hole in the cap from the top.String the end of the hair band up into the cap and tie off with a couple more knots. 3. Sew a running stitch along the edge of the fabric circle. Gather and stuff to desired firmness with poyfill. 4. Place hot glue into plastic cap over rubber band knots and along rim of cap and then place stuffed fabric... See less

Once upon a time, somebody asked how I do my zippers. Because I like to share knowledge, I decided I'd write up a little tutorial for my method (and probably the method of others, too). Because I am lazy busy, it's taken me a long time, but I finally got round to it. Some things: This is a tutorial for a zipped pouch, but you can use the same method on larger projects. If you put little 'end caps' on the ends of the zipper before sewing it into your project, you can have a zip that doesn't go all the way across, as with this purse. Doing that can take some jiggery pokery to get it to work, but it's not so difficult, really. Just a note: I've had to close the comments on this post, because it was starting to get pretty heavily spammed. Thank you to everybody who has used and enjoyed this tutorial! Skill Level: Beginner Pleating ribbon: Starting at one end of ribbon, fold cut end under 1/4" and pin.Then make a 1/4" wide, slightly angled fold every 1/2" on right edge of ribbon. Pin each fold in place. After a few folds the ribbon will begin to curve to the right. Fold second cut end under and pin. Hand or machine sew close to right edge to secure folds, removing pins as you go. Making flower: Start at center and wrap ribbon in a spiral. Have sewn edges of ribbon touch at center and spread out with each wrap. Pin in place. Handstitch layers of ribbon together on underside of flower. Making flower center: Cover button with scrap of ribbon following manufacturer’s instructions. Sew or glue button to center of flower. Finishing: Glue felt circle to center back of flower to conceal stitches. Glue pin back to center top of felt circle. (TIP: Placing pin back off-center insures that brooch will not droop when worn.) A few things before we begin: ~ A wristlet is a small zippered pouch with a ribbon bracelet so it can be worn around the wrist. ~ My sewing is very much like Rachael Ray’s cooking — not at all precise, but a lot of fun. ~ If I can sew a zipper, a monkey can sew a zipper. What you’ll need: Scraps of fabric to create: 2 exterior squares, 8″ x 8″ 2 interior rectangles, 8″ x 7″ 1 7″ zipper 1 label — if it’s your fancy 1.
